Quick Troubleshooting methods for Quickbooks Error 6189

Whenever you are accessing QuickBooks in a multi-user environment, ensure that you follow these simple methods to resolve the error:

1. Solution One: Resolving the Company File Error

Follow these simple solutions to resolve the error immediately once you have performed the above-mentioned procedures. (However, these solutions are independent in their nature):

Total Time: 10 minutes

  1. Step One

Restarting the Computer and the Server

💠 All the computers having access to the company file should be restarted.
💠 Start the server again if the data is stored on a server.
    💠 Access the company file.

If the error persists, get to the second solution.

  2. Step Two

Resolving the issue by installing QuickBooks Database Manager on the server.

💠 If the QuickBooks DB user is not visible, you will need to install the Database Manager.
💠 Once the installation is through, start the server again.

2. Solution Two: You have not stored your data file on the network drive:

Ensure that your file is not uploaded on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device or any other drive which could be removed. Full computer functionality is missing from these devices and that is why QuickBooks Database Manager cannot run on these. Sometimes such an arrangement could cause data damage.

3. Solution Three: File sharing service is active:

It is recommended not to use any file sharing service, in combination with QuickBooks. There are some online auto-backup services which cause errors when used with QuickBooks. If the file is located at one of such drives, taking it out and saving it on C:\ folder of your computer will cut these chances off.

These are a few other options we think you should consider:

  • Use IDP to protect your company file.
  • Utilization of QuickBooks Online so that it could be accessed from multiple locations.

4. Solution Four: There is no Encryption Software installed on your computer system:

It is not suggested to encrypt your company file in any case. You may need to contact the manufacturer of your encryption software to get detailed instructions about disabling the software.
